Charleston has a very active lay speaking ministry. The lay speaking board meets quarterly to plan two lay speaker training sessions each year. The sessions are held in March and September each year and teach United Methodists about various topics including worship, heritage and how to teach adults. May of 2008 marked a new event for the lay speakers of Charleston. The first youth lay speaker certification course was held. Over 20 youth attended to learn about the history of our church and how we worship. At the end of the night, the youth led a worship service that they planned themselves. If you're interested in lay speaking, we encourage you to talk to your pastor about enrolling in the next training course. You can find an audio message from Bonnie Miller, the chairperson for the Charleston District Layspeaking board, attached below. |
